The Amphawa floating market takes place from Friday to Sunday and starts at noon but it's really in late afternoon that it begins to become alive. It is mostly a night market. This is at night that it get all its charm.
The boats present are actually small kitchens on the water and offer Pad Thai, grilled shrimp, fried rice... You can visit the market by feet, no need to take a boat, you can do everything from the platform. And even if you want a boat ride, wait until night and do the fireflies (or fai flies ) flashing in the trees) visit. It lasts one hour and costs 60 THB. The real market is on the land in the street perpendicular to the main canal. In the shops on both sides, you can also go shopping and buy souvenirs, clothes, paintings ect .. or seat at a bar or restaurant. At the end of the main canal, there are many homestays opportunities. Prices vary but are usually around 1200 - 2500 THB for a night. Perhaps the good plan for those who want to sleep in the area and not do the round trip from Bangkok within the day. Around here there are other accommodations with different class bungalows or rooms at the edge of the water whether in Amphawa or Bang Thi.

Practical information about Amphawa Floating Market

I recommend spending the weekend in Amphawa and sleep one night there rather than just coming a few hours from Bangkok. On the one hand because Amphawa Floating Market more an evening market, on the other hand because you won't be able to do the firefly boat tour before returning to Bangkok in the evening and you will miss the monk's alms oferring on boats in the morning. And above all, you will miss out on the charm of Amphawa's atmosphere.
